It all started with a mission …

The Small Law Firm Recruiting journey started with a mission by founder and CEO Justin E. Crawford to help free law firm owners from being bogged down by “the business end” of their small businesses to unleash their legal talents, make happier lawyers, and expand access to our justice system along the way.

which led to a partnership …

That mission led Justin E. Crawford to connect with RJon Robins, the CEO of How to Manage a Small Law Firm (HTM) – the largest provider of fractional c-suite services to law firms in the country.

Justin joined HTM’s C-suite for a time, even bringing some members of his team along with him into HTM. During that period, Justin and RJon leveraged HTM’s team, institutional knowledge and clients to build out a set of programs for law firms that have outgrown mere “fractional” C-suite services, and are ready to start building a full-time internal C-suite of their own.

From this process, the foundation of what would eventually become Small Law Firm Recruiting was built, tested, refined, then spun off into a new company once we had about a dozen happy customers to validate that we were onto something special here.

Justin is an attorney, international bestselling author, serial entrepreneur and seasoned Chief Talent Officer (CTO) who specializes in helping small-to-mid-sized law firms grow through strategic talent acquisition, retention & optimization strategies. Justin’s expertise has been featured in hundreds of media outlets across the country, and he has advised hundreds of companies around the world on talent acquisition, growth strategies, and operational process refinement.

Justin leads the team at Small Law Firm Recruiting, builds all our systems, and runs all the university instruction, leaning on the rest of the team to do the core recruiting work.

Todd Rogers

Fractional Chief Talent Officer (CTO), Senior Recruiter

Todd has over thirteen years of experience leading business development for Fortune 1000 companies, as well as working with dozens of small law firms as a fractional Chief Talent Officer (CTO). He also has extensive experience as a business effectiveness coach. This background gives Todd a unique ability to think through big-picture talent optimization strategy while maintaining a clear view of cultural nuances and leveraging his high-EQ to suss out the cultural fit of applicants to a given firm.

Todd is the lead Fractional CTO for Small Law Firm Recruiting, leading our “Defining Success” process, and helping law firm owners crystalize what precise role will bring their firm the maximum ROI at their current stage of development. As part of this role, Todd is one of our Senior Recruiters.

Amy Crawford

Personality Profiling Consultant, Senior Recruiter

Amy leverages years of work in the field of psychology as well as years of working with small start-ups to consult with law firms and recruit perfect-fit candidates to run their daily operations.  She has spent the last 11 years honing her interviewing and interpersonal skills as a therapist, and has spent much of that time interested in and learning about organizational psychology. This depth of knowledge and practice allows her to adeptly read and understand the dynamic and culture within a workplace, and to seek out candidates who will become an integral part of the executive team.

Amy is one of our Senior Recruiters, and plays a critical role in our “Defining Success” process, leveraging Kolbe testing to define the ideal conative personality profile for a perfect-fit candidate.

Sean Amato

Recruiting Researcher, Assistant Recruiter

Sean brings two decades of high-level experience as an operations manager, auditor, and researcher for one of the largest international shipping companies on the planet. He built his career on second-to-none research capabilities to catch and avoid abnormalities that had seven-to-eight-figure consequences attached to them. Today, Sean leverages those exceptional fact-finding gifts as a recruiting researcher, and to ensure quality control throughout the SLFR process.

Behind the scenes of most of what we do here at SLFR, you’ll find Sean – maintaining our systems to keep the trains running on time, and ensuring that no stone is left unturned to flesh out all the best-fit applicants to any given role.
